The steppe bison (Bison priscus) was a large species of bovid (Artiodactyla, Bovidae), up to 2 m tall and weighing up to 1000 kg, which inhabited the vast steppes of Eurasia and North America during the Pleistocene and part of the Holocene era. This bison was a frequent theme of Paleolithic cave painting and the prey of prehistoric hunters.
