In the painting “Red Port”, the artist offers a recognizable motif repertoire: walls, fortresses, landscapes and cities of Spain and the sea. These are representations of a special, phantasmagorical world, modified traditional motifs and genres. According to Lidija Merenik, Ksenija bases her eccentric art world, “reduced speech of symbols and art forms”, on great love and the study of Spanish painting – from Velázquez and El Greco to Goya, as well as Mane’s interpretations of Spanish role models (Merenik, 2006). Ksenija Divjak was born in 1924 in Ivanić-Grad, Croatia, and lived in Zagreb until 1941, when she came to Belgrade as a refugee. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade, where she graduated in 1949. She has exhibited at many joint exhibitions in the country and abroad. She died in Belgrade in 1995.
