From the beginning of public sculpture and professional work, Mira Sandić has mostly opted for the world of childhood and youth. In order to study this area properly, she connected with institutions where she will be able to follow the lives of children and youth, their actions and games, movements and songs. She spent days with them from morning to evening. The sculpture “Ballerina” represents just such artistic interests. Mira Sandić was born in 1924 in Belgrade. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 1951, and in 1957 finished her postgraduate studies from the Sculpture Department at the Class of Professor Ilija Kolarević. Her sculptures can be found in many museums, galleries, collections, and private collections, but they are also part of public buildings and parks in the country and abroad. Mira Sandić is the winner of many awards and recognitions. She died in 2010 in Belgrade.
