During her school and academic period, Milena Pavlović Barilli turned to romantic scenes and personalities, and as a big fan of film, she painted numerous movie stars – Rudolf Valentin, Wilma Blanca, Conrad Feith, dancers, grotesque figures from 1001 Nights, fatal women… In this self-portrait, which you can be seen at the exhibition “Milena Pavlović Barilli – Life and Dreams”, Milena transferred the glamor of movie stars, which was extremely present in the 1920s, to her own face. The eyes dominate, which, although with a prominent glow, sadly and gloomy suggest life behind the curtain and turned off film spotlights.
