An extraordinarily well-preserved smaller, iron trowel was found during an eight-year research of the monastery complex, which was conducted in the 1980s by the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Serbia. The trowel has an elongated shape, a slightly arched body, with a long thorn for attaching a wooden handle. This rounded trowel could be used for fine processing of fresco-plaster, when it is applied to the arched or dome-shaped surface of the wall. The time of use can be reliably determined for this trowel, because it is known that the church was painted in the second half of the 13th century and that such trowels were used by masons and painters.
