Matija Zlamalik (1905–1965) was a painter, graphic artist, cartoonist and graphic designer of Czech origin, who spent most of his life and working life in Belgrade. Dedicated to classical genres – portrait and still life, Zlamalik developed a variant of intimate painting in the best tradition of European modernism. Matija Mate Zlamalik was born in Sarajevo in 1905 in a modest clerical family of Czech origin. He graduated from the Art School in Belgrade in 1935. He worked as a lecturer at the Academy of Applied Arts in Belgrade, from its founding in 1949 until his retirement due to illness in 1964. The American magazine “Life” listed his stamps from the series “Flora and Fauna of Yugoslavia” in 1959. to the fund of the most beautiful stamps in the world.
