Jelek, beginning of the 20th century, Vrnjačka Banja

Jelek is a short women’s sleeveless outer garment, made by abadžije and decorated with tailors. Our specimen, from Novo Selo near Vrnjačka Banja, was made of black cloth and was not placed. It is decorated with a silk cord around all the edges, and it is decorated with purple around the sleeves. Several rows of black braid divide the back diagonally into three fields, decorated with motifs of a stylized vine embroidered with gold threads. The embroidery on the back is richer and some parts of the embroidery are made on inserted pieces of brown velvet, with sewing on sequins.
