The Serbian Red Cross Society was founded in 1876, when it issued letters of thanks for help in taking care of the wounded and sick from the first Serbian-Turkish war. Milan Stanić from Kraljevo also received one such thank-you note. The following year, in 1877, the Order of the Red Cross was established, which represents a valuable museum in the Historical Collection. It has the shape of a one-armed cross, the surface of which is covered with red enamel, with the year 1876 on the obverse, in the center, while on the reverse was the coat of arms of the Principality of Serbia (not preserved in our specimen). The order was awarded for “exceptional merits and services for society during the war and peacetime, for the care and nursing of the sick and wounded, for charity and personal merit.”
