SUMMARY:Željko Radović – Drawings
DESCRIPTION:Visitors will have the opportunity to see the exhibition of drawings by the young artist from Kraljevo Željko Radović\, who graduated from the Art School in Kraljevo (2014) and graduated from the Faculty of Philology and Art in Kragujevac (2018). After that\, he finished his master’s studies at the same faculty in the class of professor Jelena Šalinić Terzić\, with the work “Drawing as a Challenge in Meeting the Spaces of the Forest”. He has been a member of Association of Fine Artist of Serbia since 2021. \nŽeljko Radović is a young artist with an already expressed drawing identity. He builds his artistic direction through the figurativeness of the art medium\, within which endless spaces of playful cartoon narrative are created. Although he is at the beginning of his creative work\, facing challenges\, both artistic and life\, Radović is the bearer of a spontaneous and miraculous dialogue between man and nature. He gazed into the symbolic and iconic infinity of forest landscapes. Conciseness and ease of drawing are based not on a mere realistic interpretation\, but on an analysis of the “cruel and powerful” world\, starting from the fact that nature is a teacher and a medium for anyone who wants to hear it. The artist uses a pencil and a shower\, his lines are thin\, clear\, precise\, intertwined\, sometimes azure\, guided by the atmosphere and energy of the wilderness. The ease of expression and conciseness of the motifs derive from the artist’s playfulness and contemplation of the forest of his spirit\, as one of his previous exhibitions is called. It is a kind of self-reflective observation\, a search for truth or at least a spontaneous encounter with it. \nIn a subtle balancing of the seen and the experienced\, Radović creates his unique visual world of strange\, almost hypnotic forest names and scenes.

SUMMARY:Jovan Dučić\, to His Beloved Trebinje – The Trails of a Vision
DESCRIPTION:With the exhibition “Jovan Dučić\, to His Beloved Trebinje – The Trails of a Vision” from the Legacy of the Museum of Herzegovina in Trebinje\, in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, the Žiča Spiritual Assembly “Transfiguration 2023” will be officially opened on Wednesday\, August 16th\, 2023\, starting at 8 p.m. The exhibition\, by Ivana Grujić\, was organized on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the death of Jovan Dučić (1874-1943). \nExhibition consists of three sections\, the first of which is dedicated to Dučić’s biography and diplomatic service and is presented with decorations\, diplomatic uniform\, correspondence\, of which the letters of artists Uroš Predić\, Toma Rosandić\, Atanasije Popović\, Rista Stijović are particularly interesting. \nIn the central part of the exhibition is an archaeological collection consisting of objects from the Roman and medieval periods – sculptures\, parts of sarcophagi\, stone sculptures and parts of church furniture that Dučić collected during his diplomatic service in Italy and which he sent to Trebinje in 1935\, with the intention of part of it will be used to decorate the city\, and part of it will be the basis for the formation of an archaeological collection. \nIn the third part\, Dučić’s collection of paintings is presented\, that is\, the smaller part that was preserved by Mihailo Dučić after his death. Thanks to Mihail Dučić\, the legacy of Jovan Dučić was brought to Trebinje in 1960 by the ship “Trebinje”. \nThe special importance of this exhibition is that Dučić is presented not only as a poet\, but also as a diplomat\, collector\, exceptional connoisseur of art and as the first curator of the Trebinje Museum\, given that he carefully kept an inventory book of his collection for the future museum. The exhibition was prepared by the curators of the Museum of Herzegovina in Trebinje: selection of objects and texts by Ivana Grujić\, accompanying texts by Jelena Pujić\, Tamara Rajković and Simo Radić\, technical preparation by Slađana Delić.

SUMMARY:Publication in the Development of Society and State III: Public Word and Public Condemnation
DESCRIPTION:The scientific conference with international participation entitled “Publications in the Development of Society and State III: Public Word and Public Condemnation” will be officially opened at the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Thursday\, August 17th\, 2023\, starting at 10 a.m.\, within the Žica Spiritual Assembly “Transfiguration 2023”. It is the third part of a three-year project organized by the National Museum Kraljevo with the support of the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade and the Institute for Political Studies from Belgrade. During the two days of the conference\, on August 17th and 18th\, twenty four scientists from the country and abroad will present their works. \nThe idea for this scientific conference and multiple directions of research occurred during many years of Slavoljub Maržik’s efforts to collect newspaper articles on Kraljevo in Serbian newspapers and thus cherish the history of this city. The understanding of the National Museum in Kraljevo and its readiness to support those efforts and present all the collected historical material to the professional and scientific public\, in four books\, also made the organisation of the scientific conference possible. \nThe scientific board of the conference “Publication in the Development of Society and State III: Public Word and Public Condemnation” defined roughly topics such as: historiography and society; social history in nonfiction (economy\, health\, education\, religious communities\, position of women…); press/newspapers and social trends; the social role of significant personalities\, families and cities through local and national newspapers; newspaper and periodical research methodology; the development of periodicals as a reflection of the development of society (propaganda and/or encouragement); political vocabulary in newspapers and periodicals; linguistic analysis of news reports; literature and politics; domestic writers and occupying newspapers; culture in politics / politics in culture / political culture; public speech and public condemnation / freedom of expression\, social criticism and political views. \nProgram of the scientific conference “Publications in the Development of Society and State III”Преузми\nBook of summaries of the scientific conference “Publications in the Development of Society and State III”Преузми

SUMMARY:Publications in the Development of Society and State I: From a Newspaper Report to Objective History. Karanovac/Kraljevo in Serbian Newspaper 1835-1918.
DESCRIPTION:On the second day of the Žica Spiritual Assembly “Transfiguration 2023” there will be a presentation of the edition “Publications in the Development of Society and State I: From a Newspaper Report to Objective History. Karanovac/Kraljevo in Serbian Newspaper 1835-1918”\, in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Thursday\, August 17th\, 2023\, starting at 8 p.m. \nThe edition includes four books by Slavoljub Maržik\, MSc\, with the theme “Karanovac/Kraljevo in the Serbian Press”\, in which the period from 1835-1918 is viewed through four chronological frames (1835-1867; 1968-1903; 1904-1908; 1908-1918). This collected material was also the immediate reason for the organization of a scientific meeting\, whose Proceedings “Publication in the Development of Society and State I: From Newspaper Report to Objective History. Karanovac/Kraljevo in Serbian Newspaper 1835-1918” is the fifth part of the edition\, which completes this topic. \nThe collection contains works that were presented at the scientific meeting with international participation\, held in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on August 17th and 18th\, 2021\, as part of the Žiča Spiritual Assembly “Transfiguration 2021”. The editors of the collection are Ljubodrag P. Ristić\, PhD\, and Darko Gučanin\, and the publishers are the National Museum Kraljevo\, the Institute for Political Studies\, Belgrade and the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade. \nCollection of papers “Publications in the Development of Society and State I: From a Newspaper Report to Objective History. Karanovac/Kraljevo in Serbian Newspaper 1835-1918” includes twenty-one works by academics\, university professors\, institute employees\, political scientists\, museum curators and advisors\, archivists… An overview of the appearance\, role and development of the press in the progress of society and the state in Serbia until the First World War and the influence of the press during the First World War in informing or misinforming was the basis of the idea of the organizers of the symposium. That’s why the wider circle of papers is directly and fundamentally related to the history of the Kraljevo region and news about it. The broad arc of consideration of the Kraljevo story begins in the presentation of the power of the written word\, the language of the Serbian press\, the economic development of the town\, in the image of culture and natural resources\, in the story of the military units in Karanovac/Kraljevo\, the rulers who visited it and the destinies of individuals in economic and political life of Serbia\, Kraljevo students and advanced women\, health conditions and the development of certain segments of agriculture. \nOn the other hand\, it contains broad considerations of Serbian historiography about the creation of Yugoslavia after the First World War\, about nationalism in interwar Romania and the pogrom against the Jews in Timisoara and Iași\, studies of the influence of economic publications on social trends in Bulgaria\, and a description of the social role of the Archive for legal and social Sciences in Serbia. \nParticipating in the presentation of the collection of papers and edition: Predrag Terzić\, PhD\, Mayor of Kraljevo\, Ljubodrag P. Ristić\, PhD\, retired senior research associate of the Balkan Studies Institute SASA and editor of the Proceedings\, Darko Gučanin\, director of the National Museum Kraljevo and editor of the Proceedings\, Radomir Popović\, PhD\, scientific advisor of the Institute of History\, Belgrade and Dragan Drašković\, retired museum advisor of the National Museum Kraljevo.

SUMMARY:Holy King Milutin: Ruler at the Crossroads of Worlds
DESCRIPTION:The presentation of the Collection of Papers “Holy King Milutin: Ruler at the Crossroads of the Worlds”\, published by the Foundation of the Holy Monastery Hilandar\, will be held in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Thursday\, October 5th\, 2023\, starting at 6 p.m. \nSixteen distinguished experts and researchers of the Serbian Middle Ages responded to the invitation of the Foundation of the Holy Monastery Hilandar to present the personality of King Stefan II Uroš Milutin\, his reign and legacy in a comprehensive and picturesque way. The contributions were specially written for this occasion and this book\, designed as a collection of monographic type\, on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the death of the Holy King. \nThrough thorough and multidisciplinary scientific argumentation\, in some cases opposing views\, they build a unique synthesis that depicts in layers and in detail the epoch of the golden age of the Serbian Middle Ages. At the same time\, they provide us with an insight into all current knowledge of contemporary historiography and bring fresh new solutions to many open questions of that era. In the end\, before the reader is the possibility of a deeper and more refined understanding of the personality and works of King Milutin. The book reveals to us a man and a ruler who\, at the crossroads of the worlds—East and West\, visible and invisible\, personal\, and general—bravely faced numerous challenges and changed the established paradigms of the great powers. Devoted to the legacy of his own ancestors\, he had a decisive influence on the shaping of our being. \nThis work from the auspices of the publishing workshop of the Fatherland Endowment of the ancient Hilandar\, reveals the greeting letter and blessing of the Hilandar abbot\, a real “key” for the modern reader to understand the mystical dimension of the words that “God gives grace to the pregaoc”. \nThe papers are completed by nine maps and as many as 228 illustrations\, which contribute to a better understanding of the era. The collection ends with an extensive bibliography\, while each author’s text is followed by a summary in English. \nThe warm recommendations of reviewers\, prominent world Byzantologists and historians of the Middle Ages\, further assure that this is an indispensable book both for researchers and for lovers and admirers of Serbian heritage and culture. Participating in the promotion are Danica Popović\, PhD\, editor of the Collection of Papers\, Vladimir Vukašinović\, PhD\, professor of the Faculty of Theologicy of the University of Belgrade\, Milivoj Ranđić\, director of the Foundation of the Holy Monastery Hilandar and\, in the role of moderator\, Gordana Gavrić\, advisor to the director of the Foundation of the Holy Monastery Hilandar.

SUMMARY:Kosovo and Metohija in the 20th Century: Historical and Geopolitical Overview
DESCRIPTION:The scientific conference “Kosovo and Metohija in the 20th Century (Historical and Geopolitical Overview)” will be officially opened in the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Saturday\, October 7th\, 2023\, starting at 12 p.m. as part of the King’s Day celebration. The one-day scientific gathering is the result of a successful multi-year collaboration between the National Museum Kraljevo\, the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade and the Institute for Political Studies from Belgrade. On the day dedicated to the founder of the Žiča Monastery\, the Holy King Stefan the First-Crowned\, fourteen distinguished scholars from the fields of history\, law and geopolitics will present twelve papers. \nThe idea for this scientific gathering stemmed from the need to once again consider the international and internal political currents and geopolitical circumstances\, which led to the situation in which Serbia\, Kosovo and Metohija\, and the Serbian people as a whole are now. \nThe organizers of the scientific meeting are deeply aware of the importance of the area of the southern Serbian province for the formation of national identity. The combined intention of the organizers is to provide a contribution to a better understanding of the overall Kosovo-Metohija problem and to possibly set new scientific guidelines for finding positive solutions.

SUMMARY:Children in War: Serbian Refugee Homes in Mataruška Banja 1942-1944
DESCRIPTION:During the Second World War\, waves of refugees came to occupied Serbia from all over the destroyed Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The arrival of a large number of refugees imposed the necessity of their organized care. \nFor this purpose\, in 1941\, the Commissariat for Refugees and Immigrants was founded\, under whose tutelage in Mataruška Banja on June 3rd\, 1942\, Serbian refugee homes for the care of children begin their work. This has transformed this popular tourist spot into one of the most important and active humanitarian centers in Serbia. Since 1943\, the Studenica Monastery has been included in the system of refugee homes\, as a convalescent home for children with poor health. Caring for children was complex and included accommodation\, nutrition\, treatment\, schooling\, raising children and organizing their free time. \nAlmost all the children arrived very sick\, exhausted and starving. From the beginning of June 1942 to the end of November 1944\, more than 3\,445 children found refuge in Mataruška Banja\, 56 of whom\, despite the efforts of doctors\, succumbed to the consequences of the disease. Along with dozens of authentic photos\, personal memories of former residents of the homes were published for the first time\, and with numerous archival documents\, the exhibition depicts in a picturesque and interesting way the daily life of children and their guardians in the refugee homes of Mataruška Banja during the war years. \nThe authors of the exhibition are Ljubinka Škodrić\, PhD\, senior research associate of the Institute for Contemporary History in Belgrade and Mirjana Savić\, museum advisor of the National Museum Kraljevo.

SUMMARY:Jelena Šalinić Terzić – Styx
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition is named after the mythological river Styx – the boundary between the earth and the underworld\, and the works are created from scenes of the river and rocks\, which in a horizontal and vertical rhythm refer to the movement of water and time. At the same time\, the expression of stillness\, tranquillity and stability of the rock was given. The artist alludes to the dual nature of the world and man\, which is opposed in the constancy of time. The scarce\, inhospitable\, self-sufficient rocks of the Morača canyon are imposed as a starting point-motif for the “Styx” cycle\, which inspires awe in the artist. Following the research of matter and spirit\, which on this occasion are not mutually exclusive\, the artist consistently\, through respect for the standards of aesthetics\, creates associations with the physical properties of stone\, its texture and fullness\, bringing to the surface stillness\, duration and sublimity. The final result of the entire process of combining matter and spirituality reflects the artist’s feeling for the nature of stone\, which has been sharpened to the highest degree of sensitivity. \nJelena Šalinić Terzić was born (1976) in Kraljevo\, while she graduated in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Arts in Belgrade in 2000\, in the class of professor Anđelka Bojović. She received her master’s degree in 2003 and her doctorate in 2016 from the same professor. He works as a full professor at the Faculty of Arts and Philology (FILUM) of the University of Kragujevac\, at the Department of Applied and Fine Arts. He has been a member of the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia since 2001. She exhibited at 50 solo and over 300 group exhibitions in the country and abroad. The works of Jelena Šalinić Terzić are in museum and private collections\, in the country and abroad.

SUMMARY:Mataruška Banja: Beneath the Cold Linden Trees\, Near the Fast Ibar River...
DESCRIPTION:During the fourth and fifth decades of the 19th century\, the first chemical tests of medicinal waters from some sources in the territory of the Principality of Serbia began. Those first steps towards balneology cannot be observed without the comprehensive context of the creation and birth of certain political\, administrative\, economic\, and social conditions\, with the aim of forming a modern Serbian state. The changes that were reflected in the modernization of the state administration included the transformation of education\, healthcare\, the military and other structures of society. Many researchers believe that following the development of healthcare\, especially balneology\, we can also follow the beginnings and development of tourism. More precisely\, the beginnings of tourism in Serbia should be sought in its spas. From the so-called folk spas\, real spas are created\, the waters of which have been continuously tested and which have been hygienically arranged over time. Then Vrnjačka Banja\, Banja Koviljača\, Sokobanja and Bukovička Banja stood out. \nMataruška Banja\, as a health resort and tourist destination\, began to develop in the first years of the 20th century. Although it is one of the youngest spas\, due to its special natural resources and characteristic geographical-spatial structure\, its development followed an upward trajectory\, especially in the years between the two world wars\, when it was formed as a climatic health resort for rest and recovery. \nAt the exhibition “Mataruška Banja: Beneath the Cold Linden Trees\, Near the Fast Ibar River…”\, the audience will have the opportunity to learn through postcards\, photos\, objects and documents\, about the genesis of the origin and development of Mataruška Banja: from the discovery of healing water\, through the interwar years boom and rise\, then systemic and ideological changes in socialism\, when it developed into a modern health resort\, in accordance with the standards of modern balneology and rehabilitation\, until the beginning of the nineties of the 20th century\, when it experienced a kind of setback. In addition to the chronological presentation\, the exhibition provides an insight into the original urban and regulatory plan\, panoramas of settlements\, architectural projects of spa baths\, hotels and villas\, the appearance of tourist and hospitality facilities\, health and healing institutions\, representative spa villas\, and visually evoking the culture of living\, clothing\, as well as and scenes of rest and recreation. Part of its story is made up of portraits of famous people (doctors\, photographers\, architects\, merchants\, teachers…) who\, with their actions and suffering\, left a permanent mark on his physiognomy\, as well as the characters of those “ordinary” people\, mostly nameless\, who spent some time in the Spa for the sake of healing health problems\, but also for beautiful\, joyful life moments. \nThe author of the exhibition is Suzana Novčić\, museum advisor of the National Museum Kraljevo.

SUMMARY:Femina Balcanica: Mater\, Matrona\, Augusta\, Dea. Women on the Balkans in Antiquity
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition “Femina Balcanica: Mater\, Matrona\, Augusta\, Dea. Woman on the Balkans in Antiquity” of the National Museum of Serbia\, opens as part of the Statehood Day celebrations in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Wednesday\, February 14th\, 2024\, starting at 6 p.m. \nThe exhibition “Femina Balcanica” is the result of the studious work of museum advisor Deana Ratković\, the author of the exhibition\, and four museum advisors from the Department of Archaeology of the National Museum of Serbia\, Vera Krstić\, Tatjana Cvjetićanin\, Veselinka Ninković and Mirjana Glumac\, thanks to whom visitors will have the opportunity to carefully selected museum objects introduce the occupations\, family relationships\, fashion\, customs\, position and role of women in the private and public sphere. \nThe exhibition\, talking about femininity\, beauty and social status\, women in Roman fortifications\, possible professional scopes\, women in the household or political life\, aims to familiarize all interested parties with the opportunities in earlier eras\, encouraging reflection on the perception of roles and relationships in the past times as well as in the current age. \nFrom objects for everyday use – horseshoes\, toys\, dishes\, through various jewellery\, medical instruments\, sculptures or epigraphic monuments\, the exhibition “Femina Balcanica” vividly tells different stories about women in the ancient era. Divided into five segments\, each of which deals with one of the spheres of a woman’s life and phenomena related to her position in the family\, cult\, community or art\, the exhibition traces the various roles that women have had. From the mistress of the house and housewife\, mother\, doctor\, scribe\, participant in rituals and religious rites\, through the respectable woman represented by the typified statues of large and small girl from Herculaneum\, Augusta as the imperial mother and wife who was positioned high on the social ladder and dictated the fashion of women in the cities\, we will be in the opportunity to meet many women of the Roman Empire. With the help of various archaeological objects\, “Femina Balcanica” provides answers to some of the questions that we might have when thinking about the time of the Roman Empire\, while simultaneously opening new directions of interpretation in the context of today’s societies. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Athena Parthenos\, from 2nd to 1st century BC\, Bukovo\, Bitola\, North Macedonia\, marble\, height 54 cm\, width 24.3 cm\, Collection of the Greco-Hellenistic Period of the National Museum of Serbia (NM-809/I).\n \n \n \n \n \n Young Woman from Herculaneum\, from the end of the 2nd to the beginning of the 3rd century\, Belgrade (Singidunum)\, marble\, height 166 cm\, Collection of the Roman Imperial Period of the National Museum of Serbia (NM-3022/III).\n \n \n \n \n \n Cameo in a gold frame\, third or fourth decade of the 3rd century\, unknown site\, two-layer opal\, gold sheet\, 3.3 × 2 cm\, Collection of the Roman Imperial Period of the National Museum of Serbia (NM-1997/II).\n \n \n \n \n \n Figurine of Venus of the Grave\, second half of the 2nd century\, Gomilica necropolis\, clay\, hood\, painting\, height 26.8 cm\, Kosmaj Collection of the National Museum of Serbia (NM-G-624).\n \n \n \n \n \n Portrait of a young woman\, first half of the 3rd century\, Belgrade (Singidunum)\, marble\, height 23 cm\, width 16.5 cm\, Collection of the Roman Imperial Period of the National Museum of Serbia (NM-2996/III).\n \n \n \n \n \n Portrait of a young girl\, 1st century\, Italy\, marble\, height 32 cm\, Collection of the Roman Imperial Period of the National Museum of Serbia (NM-2994/III).\n \n \n \n \n \n Donkey rider\, 2nd century\, Demir Gate\, North Macedonia\, clay\, with 14.4 cm\, height 15 cm\, Collection of the Roman Imperial Period of the National Museum of Serbia (NM-932/II).\n \n \n \n \n \n Ring with a bust of a woman\, from the end of the 1st to the middle of the 2nd century\, unknown site\, amber\, radius 3.3 cm\, height 4.1 cm Collection of the Roman Imperial Period of the National Museum of Serbia (NM- 4268).\n \n \n \n \n \n Ariadne’s cup\, end of the 1st – beginning of the 2nd century\, unknown site\, silver\, radius 11.5 cm\, height 11.5 cm\, Collection of the Roman Imperial Period of the National Museum of Serbia (NM-850/II).\n \n \n \n \n \n Clothespin – Leda and the Swan\, 2nd – first half of the 3rd century\, Gračanica (Ulpiana)\, silver\, width 3.4 cm\, height 2.2 cm\, Collection of the Roman Imperial Period of the National Museum of Serbia (NM-866-II).

She was much more. It was also the legal basis of the social unit – patria potestas\, which brought together a larger group of people within one household. What was the position of a woman in this community\, from legal status to real life\, from growing up to engagement and marriage\, in which she acquired the status of matron – mistress of the house\, you can find out at the first thematic guidance.

It was defined as such by the ruling circles of the (male) elite\, and the research of archaeologists and historians for many years presented such a picture. So today we know a lot about the political and military hegemony of Rome over the ancient world\, the organization of the army and armaments\, the organization of government in the provinces\, infrastructure issues\, large construction projects that include aqueducts\, amphitheaters\, temples\, military camps\, etc. However\, the fact that the ancient writers did not leave significant evidence about the female part of the population\, and that women were not sufficiently represented in scientific studies\, does not mean that they were not important and active factors in the society of that time. \nViminacium was founded as a legion headquarters on the fortified Roman border – Limes. In such an environment\, oriented towards the army and the administration\, it is even more difficult to spot the female part of the population and reconstruct their daily activities. \nWhat did it mean to be a woman in the ancient period? What obstacles did the inhabitants of these areas face in the first centuries of our era? How did they overcome them? Aurelia\, a woman you rarely meet\, will help us in our search for answers\, through a lecture by Ilija Danković\, PhD\, scientific associate of the Archaeological Institute in Belgrade.

SUMMARY:Speak Latin So the Whole World Can Understand You
DESCRIPTION:The workshop “Speak Latin So the Whole World Can Understand You”\, which is realized as part of the exhibition “Femina Balcanica: Mater\, Matrona\, Augusta\, Dea. Woman on the Balkans in Antiquity”\, will be organized in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Friday\, April 12th\, 2024\, starting at 7 p.m. \nIn Roman poetry\, women are a frequent theme presented through various images and roles. For poets\, she has always been a primordial inspiration\, the one that was the common source of their love and suffering. Although in Latin literature she is often depicted as a muse who inspires verses about devotion\, beauty and art\, the perception of women did not stop there. Many verses of Roman poets talk about the qualities and values that depict women’s role in society and deepen our understanding of the concept of women in the ancient world. \nThe audience will have the opportunity to learn how Latin love songs sounded\, how poets expressed their feelings through verses\, and what it tells us about the role of women in Roman society at the workshop “Speak Latin So the Whole World Can Understand You”. Poetry in Latin and Serbian will be recited by the students of the Kraljevo Gymnasium\, while the verses will be interpreted by the students of the Gymnasium in Vrnjačka Banja. French language professor Sanja Bižić and professor Slađana Opačić will review Latin literature and love poetry of ancient Rome. The workshop is moderated by art historian Jelena Marković.

SUMMARY:Let's Try History: Tasting of Roman Cuisine
DESCRIPTION:The program “Let’s Try History: Tasting of Roman Cuisine” organized on the occasion of the closing of the exhibition “Femina Balcanica: Mater\, Matrona\, Augusta\, Dea. Woman on the Balkans in Antiquity”\, of the National Museum of Serbia\, will be held in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Friday\, April 19th\, 2024\, starting at 6 p.m. The audience will have the opportunity to enter the world of Roman cuisine and food culture with the author of the exhibition\, Deana Ratković\, museum advisor of the National Museum of Serbia\, and try some of the ancient recipes that the Romans had on their tables. \nThe production and preparation of food\, as well as its serving\, was one of the most important productive spheres that women engaged in during the Roman period as part of their main obligation to be the mistress of the house and mother. Depending on the social identity\, material and social status of the family\, the woman performed these tasks herself\, or if she was from the middle class of society\, she organized and supervised the preparation of food\, while in the wealthiest ones these tasks were performed by slaves or specialized cooks\, and the main the dinner meal was a social event. However\, men also cooked\, so the most famous book of recipes of that time was written by Apicius\, which is known as “On Cooking”. Many people were involved in the process of food production and preparation\, and women were certainly the most important link. At the exhibition “Femina Balcanica: Mater\, Matrona\, Augusta\, Dea. Woman on the Balkans in Antiquity” also exhibits that were used for storing\, preparing\, and serving food\, such as ceramic\, bronze and silver vessels are exhibited.

SUMMARY:Portrait of Art School: 20 Years of the Art School in Kraljevo 2004-2024
DESCRIPTION:The idea of establishing the first high school of art in this part of Serbia appeared in parallel with the changed socio-political and cultural circumstances at the beginning of the 2000s. Through the efforts of individuals from the sphere of politics\, education and culture who worked in support of the opening of a specialized pedagogical institution for education in the field of fine and applied arts\, in In 2004\, the Art School was opened in Kraljevo. After receiving the Founding Decision\, the School started its work and was\, next to Art School in Niš\, the second institution of its kind south of Belgrade. As the first director\, a distinguished fine artist\, academic painter Velimir Zelenović\, was appointed\, who will continue to manage the institution very successfully for almost twenty years. The art school has managed to maintain a high educational level\, to position itself as a prestigious institution\, in which an increasing number of primary school students want to study\, as well as\, despite different social\, political\, economic and other circumstances\, unhindered and without interrupts continued work for twenty years. \nA lot of work\, effort and enthusiasm of the employees\, but also the support and understanding of the local government\, cultural and public workers and fine artists were needed to realize the ambitious curricula of a high educational level. This time distance provides an opportunity to summarize the results achieved by the students of the school\, for which\, to a significant extent\, the professors are responsible. Despite numerous challenges\, they have been improving the work of the institution for years.

SUMMARY:How Tito Was Made
DESCRIPTION:In the study “How Tito Was Made” Srđan Cvetković\, PhD\, opens one of the most enigmatic chapters of Yugoslav history – the construction of the personality cult of Josip Broz. Cvetković\, among other things\, investigates the lasting impact of Tito’s cult on the Serbian people. The study primarily deals with the analysis of the formation of the personality cult of Josip Broz Tito as one of the key pillars of authoritarian rule in socialist Yugoslavia. It follows decades of propaganda that allowed Tito to remain loved and adored even decades after his death. In addition to the question of how Tito managed to build his cult of personality\, the book deals with the extent to which the construction of that cult was influenced by social heritage and the tradition of divinization of leaders in Serbia. It is analyzed how the technologies of building a cult of personality were specific in relation to other authoritarian leaders of that time. \nThe book further explores the task of Tito’s cult and the social preconditions for its emergence\, how the cult manifested itself and in what way it was modelled. Of vital importance to understanding the cult of personality in the modern age was the role of the mass media and state propaganda. \nCvetković’s analysis indicates that Tito’s cult was long-lasting\, systematically\, and aggressively nurtured. The role of all state institutions and social organizations is also explored\, which was key to its longevity and influence. \nThe study “How Tito Was Made” represents a significant contribution to the understanding of the domain of propaganda and the technology of building a personality cult\, as well as its successful and unsuccessful attempts to dismantle it in recent times. The introductory chapters of the book deal with the importance of the cult of personality for the establishment and maintenance of power in authoritarian societies and the technologies of building the cult of the leader. \nKosta Nikolić\, PhD\, scientific advisor of the Institute for Contemporary History in Belgrade\, Ena Mirković\, PhD\, scientific associate of the Institute for Serbian Culture Priština – Leposavić and the author\, Srđan Cvetković\, will talk about the book “How Tito Was Created”\, published by the publishing house “Catena Mundi”.

SUMMARY:European Museum Night
DESCRIPTION:The program of the European Museums Night at the National Museum Kraljevo in 2024 is called “In vino veritas” and is motivated by the fact that the “Kraljevo Wine Festival” prepared by the Tourist Organization of Kraljevo is being held at the same time in the city park\, opposite the Museum. Given that wine and viticulture is one of the great themes of heritage\, from ancient times to the present day\, we decided to present it during the Museum Night. The program is implemented in cooperation with the Museum of Spoonswets – Cvetić House from Kraljevo and the Museum of Winemaking and Viticulture from Aleksandrovac. \nWine Saga of Serbia\n7:00-8:30 pm \nDepiction of Bacchus\, Cvetić house\, first decade of the 20th century\, Kraljevo\, wall painted decoration\, Documentation of the National Museum Kraljevo. \nMuseum of Spoonswets – Cvetić House\, through the lecture of Marina Lukić Cvetić and Lidija Cvetić Vučković\, PhD\, brings a gastro-heritological story about wine and winemaking in Serbian culture\, conceived through three segments: the history of growing vines and the establishment of vineyards from Rome to Nemanjićs\, wine and symbolism in spirituality and art of medieval Serbia\, all the way to the most beautiful representations of wine and winemakers in modern Serbian painting and inspiration in poetry. \nThe saga begins in the 3rd century AD with the vineyards of Marcus Aurelius Probus on Fruška Gora and continues through the Slavic acceptance of Christianity and the cultivation of vines\, Nemanjić Župa and Hilandar\, through the introduction of quality control by King Stephen the First-Crowned and the plantations of Jelena of Anjou. King Milutin had his vineyards in Kosovo and Metohija\, while Emperor Dušan passed laws on the protection of the geographical origin of Serbian wine\, transport\, and imperial cellars. \nAfter Lazar and Đurađ Branković\, and after the strict Ottoman prohibitions\, Serbian wine easily found its way to the Habsburg Monarchy via Sremski Karlovac\, finding its way into the first encyclopedia of Zaharij Orfelin called “Experienced Cellar Owner”) published in Vienna. You will find out who the “Perfect Winemaker” was\, what the path of the autochthonous vine was from Vršac all the way to the soil of America\, and finally how King Peter I renewed the tradition of royal vineyards and cellars on Oplenac in Topola. \nAfter the block about the most beautiful medieval frescoes depicting Serbian wines\, we will make a leap to Serbian romanticism and inspiration from this divine drink\, and find the wine inspired by modern Serbian painters: Katarina Ivanović\, Uroš Predić\, Stevan Aleksić and the unforgettable story of the creation of the famous painting by Đura Jakšić “Girl in Blue”. \nViticulture and Winemaking of the Župa Aleksandrovačka throughout the Centuries\n21:00-23:00 p.m. \nWinery with equipment for processing grapes from the interwar period at the Permanent exhibition of the Museum of Winemaking and Viticulture in Aleksandrovac. \nIn the first part of the program\, through a short presentation by MA Đorđe Živadinović\, an agricultural engineer from the Museum of Winemaking and Viticulture\, the audience will get an insight into the story of the development of this branch of the economy in the Župa area\, from the 12th century to the present day. It is also connected with the monasteries in our immediate surroundings. The first written document in which the Župa vineyard is mentioned dates back to 1196\, it is the Studenica Charter of the founder of the Serbian Medieval State\, Stefan Nemanja. And so throughout the Middle Ages\, Studenica\, Hilandar and Žiča had their vineyards in Župa. In addition to medieval history\, the story includes the period under Turkish rule and after liberation from it\, the formation of meadows in Župa\, the fight against the phylloxera vine disease\, the period between the two world wars\, and the period of socialism during the second half of the 20th century. \nThe second part of the program consists of a smaller exhibition\, prepared for this occasion\, where the audience will have the opportunity to see 35 selected exhibits from the rich winemaking collection of the Museum of Winemaking and Viticulture\, as well as the story of seasonal winegrowing settlements – fields\, created during the 19th century. On the free space in the middle of the vineyard where\, often due to the poor quality of the land\, the plot was left unplanted\, buildings were built that were used for the workers’ stay in the vineyard\, but also for storing tools and wine. \nIn the third part of the program\, the audience will have the opportunity to see the documentary film “Gifts of the Župa Aleksandrovačka”\, which was produced by Snežana Ašanin Šaponjić\, the museum advisor of the National Museum in Čačak\, as part of a project supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia. \n

SUMMARY:In the Depts of the Province
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition changes the perspective of ancient and contemporary\, but also illuminates a new type of museum interpretation and protection of heritage. Placing the ancient past in an artistic context\, the exhibition covers a number of topics depicting the heritage of this era\, starting from archaeological sites\, epigraphic monuments\, artistic to useful objects from the Ancient Collection of the National Museum in Čačak. Bringing together photographic frames\, poetic expression\, paintings\, drawings and immediate\, original fragments\, the exhibition connects the time depths of an ancient settlement in the Roman province and the contemporary space of the city of Čačak\, imaginary and real. \nThe young people as models in this project are the current residents of Čačak\, but together with archaeological and architectural details\, decorative and useful items from the Antiquity Collection of the National Museum Čačak\, they create a visual ambience in which the differences between past and present\, life and art are blurred. \nThe authors of the exhibition are the curators of the National Museum in Čačak\, Slobodan Bogojević\, conservator\, and Aleksandra Gojgić\, curator of the Antiquity Collection\, who were joined by the fine artist Ivan Đurović. The authors of the photographs are Bojan Pajić and Ivan Đurović\, while the design of the exhibition was done by Miloš Vuk Aleksić.

SUMMARY:Occupied Culture
DESCRIPTION:The book “Occupied Culture” by Vladimir Krivošejev\, PhD\, museum advisor of the National Museum Valjevo and Rade Ristanović\, PhD\, senior scientific associate of the Institute for Contemporary History in Belgrade\, departs thematically from established historiographical books that analyse military operations\, suffering and resistance. Its authors look at the Second World War in occupied Serbia from a completely different angle. The horizon of this publication is represented by culture in its extremely important segment – the protection of cultural assets and the work of museums. From a heuristic point of view\, this monograph rests on the solid foundations of primary historical sources\, mostly of German and collaborationist provenance. The starting point of the research is the verification of stereotypes created in post-war Yugoslavia that only after the Second World War in a country whose entire social life is dictated by the Communist Party\, a museum network is developed outside Belgrade as the capital\, that then the first laws on the protection of cultural property are passed and the first institute is opened for the protection of cultural monuments\, as well as to form professional and scientific staff ready to actively work on the protection of cultural monuments. The author’s research denied these stereotypes. True\, they are more acceptable when it comes to the pre-war period\, but not for the occupation period 1941-1944. During the years of occupation\, the Government of Quislin designed a national network of Serbian museums\, on three levels. In addition\, in the spring of 1942\, the Decree on the Preservation of Antiquities was adopted\, which represents a fundamental modern legal act. On the basis of that Regulation\, the Central Institute for the Protection of Antiquities was established. In addition\, since the fall of 1941\, the Belgrade City Institute for the Preservation of Antiquities has been working. During the occupation\, there were also special courses – seminars for museum students\, through which\, either as lecturers or as course participants\, the most famous names of post-war Serbian heritology developed professionally and scientifically. In the official biographies of most of them\, the activity during the war years is completely hidden. In addition to documenting these facts\, along with a detailed historiographical narrative\, the authors paid additional attention to a number of other aspects of the work of heritage institutions in Serbia during the occupation.

SUMMARY:Author’s Guidance through the Exhibition “In the Depts of the Province”
DESCRIPTION:The guided tour by Aleksandra Gojgić\, senior curator of the National Museum Čačak\, through the exhibition “In the Depths of the Province”\, will be held in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Thursday\, June 13th\, 2024\, starting at 7 p.m. During the tour\, the audience will also have the opportunity to see the film “Antique Time Machine”\, which tells the story of the ancient heritage of Čačak with the use of 3D animations. The complete story about the Roman baths is specially apostrophized: as a universal story about this special type of Roman urban and social place of public life\, the numerous remains of which are present in Serbia\, as well as about the specific monument of this type found in the center of Čačak. \nThe province is a determinant that\, as a concept of the past and the present\, represents a global phenomenon that embodies passivity and peace\, but also a space far from the center of events. Antique Čačak was located on the border of two Roman provinces\, and the archaeological discoveries of its parts were placed in the center of today’s city\, which allowed the fragments of an ancient time to flow into the present. Hence\, the exhibition was conceived through multiple temporal and visual planes\, combining photographic frames\, poetic expression\, paintings\, drawings and immediate archaeological fragments. Discover how the layers of the ancient horizon are connected to modern man by the same territory\, feelings and substance.
