SUMMARY:Lojanik: Prehistoric Jasper and Opal Quarry
DESCRIPTION:Lojanik represents a unique paleobotanical site\, where fossil remains of silicified\, petrified wood have been discovered. It was declared a scientific research reserve in 1963. The site is located on the northern slopes of Stolovi\, on the right bank of the Ibar River\, near Mataruška Banja. Analysis of the silicified wood identified its origin as petrified conifers of the fir genus (Abies).    \nArchaeological research conducted between 2016 and 2022\, organized by the National Museum Kraljevo and the National Museum of Serbia\, confirmed the mining concept of raw material extraction at Lojanik. Excavations revealed surface mining structures in the form of shallow pits and trenches on both sides of the hill. The oldest archaeological material – jasper\, opal\, breccia\, and silicified wood—was dated to the Middle Paleolithic (Old Stone Age)\, around 228\,000 BC. In addition\, geological layer 2 contained clear evidence of fire use\, dated to around 90\,000 BCE. Fire was employed to remove surface rock and release ore\, direct proof of the skill and experience of populations likely linked to Neanderthals or archaic Homo sapiens.        \nThe significance of Lojanik as a quarry and mining site over the past 200\,000 years cannot be understood without reference to the nearby settlement of Crkvine in Konarevo\, only 2 km away. Crkvine is one of the earliest Early Neolithic settlements\, formed by the arrival of the first farmers on the left bank of the Ibar\, opposite Lojanik. They encountered available raw materials and Paleolithic artifacts\, which they initially used. Lojanik’s limnosilicates\, opals\, silicified wood\, and various breccias became the basic materials for toolmaking in Neolithic settlements in the area.    \nEven in modern times\, the rough\, dark parts of silicified branches were recognized as grinding material for metal blades. In the late 20th century\, “miner” Đorđe Matović and traders (the Vićanović brothers) ran a small-scale production of stone grindstones\, competitive with industrial products of the era. Remarkably\, Matović’s grindstones remain in use today\, still efficient and barely worn after half a century.     \nThe exhibition is authored by Vera Bogosavljević Petrović\, PhD\, museum advisor at the National Museum of Serbia and head of the research project. The exhibition will be formally opened by Dr Dušan Mihailović\, Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy\, University of Belgrade.

SUMMARY:Miomir Vukobratović: Pioneer of Robotics
DESCRIPTION:The promotion of the monograph “Miomir Vukobratović: Pioneer of Robotics” will be held at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Friday\, April 3rd\, 2026\, starting at 1 p.m.   \nThe monograph “Miomir Vukobratović: Pioneer of Robotics” was created with the intention of systematically illuminating in one place the life\, scientific work\, and intellectual legacy of the Serbian scientist whose contribution to world robotics is indisputable\, but who for a long time remained insufficiently known to the domestic public. The book provides a comprehensive and documented overview of an exceptional scientific career and its lasting impact on the development of modern technologies.  \nThrough the story of the life and work of one of the pioneers of humanoid robotics\, the publication reveals how visionary ideas and theories were created\, on which the development of intelligent machines is still based today\, among which a special place belongs to the famous Zero Moment Point theory of walking – one of the key concepts of modern robotics. \nThis monograph goes beyond the framework of a classical scientific biography and presents Professor Vukobratović as an exceptional and versatile personality – a top scientist\, charismatic professor\, and passionate researcher. At the same time\, readers will have the opportunity to get to know him as a dedicated pedagogue and mentor who\, with his knowledge\, work ethic\, and personal example\, shaped generations of young researchers. The book also highlights his artistic side – his love for music and theater\, as well as the fact that he was an accomplished violinist.   \nThe monograph provides documented data on more than five decades of scientific work\, over five hundred scientific papers\, and numerous innovations that have permanently marked the development of humanoid robotics. A special value is the systematized bibliography of Professor Vukobratović\, which makes this book a valuable source for researchers\, students\, and the professional public.  \nThis book is also a tribute to a man who\, with his vision\, innovation\, and dedication to science\, left a deep and lasting mark on the world’s scientific heritage. SUMMARY:Culture of Memory: Children in War and From War
DESCRIPTION:The promotion of the collection of papers “Culture of Memory: Children in War and from War” will be held at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Tuesday\, April 7th\, 2026\, starting at 6 p.m.   \nThe Collection of Paper was created as a result of the international scholarly thematic conference “Children in War and from War” held on 26. June 26th–27th\, 2025 at the University of Business Academy in Novi Sad\, in co‑organization with the Jovan Ristić Institute from Novi Sad. At the conference\, 29 authors from Serbia\, Italy\, Hungary\, Russia\, Belarus\, Republika Srpska\, and Romania participated\, with a total of 24 scholarly papers. The authors – university professors\, scientific researchers\, museum experts\, and representatives of various disciplines – approached the topic from legal\, philosophical\, sociological\, cultural\, and historical perspectives.    \nThe papers were presented within three thematic units:\n• children as victims of war rights and injustices\n• historical traumas and memories – the suffering of children in the world wars of the 20th and 21st centuries\n• identity\, memory\, and silence – the suffering of children. \nThe Collection of Papers “Culture of Memory: Children in War and from War” brings scholarly and professional contributions dealing with the position of children in wartime circumstances and the long‑term consequences of war experiences on individuals and society. The papers arose from different scholarly perspectives and together make an important contribution to the study of the theme of children’s suffering\, as well as to understanding the ways in which these experiences are remembered\, interpreted\, and transmitted to future generations.  \nThe publication unites original scholarly papers\, review studies\, and professional contributions that shed light on issues of children as victims of war injustices\, historical traumas and memories of suffering in world wars\, as well as themes of identity\, memory\, and silence that often accompany these events. The collection was published in Serbian\, English\, and Russian\, which gives it special significance and enables the research results to be accessible to a wider scholarly and professional public.  \nAs a whole\, this collection points to the importance of the culture of remembrance as a value that not only serves to preserve the past from oblivion but also encourages contemporary society to draw lessons from historical experiences and act responsibly toward the future. \nSpeakers about the Collection of Papers will be:\n– Prof. Zoran Pavlović\, PhD\, editor of the collection (Faculty of Law of the University of Business Academy Novi Sad)\n– Prof. Borislav Grozdić\, PhD (Faculty of Law of the University of Business Academy Novi Sad)\n– Prof. Aleksandar Stevanović PhD (State University of Novi Pazar).    \nThrough discussion of this publication\, the common message of the authors will be emphasized – that the culture of remembrance is a value by which we preserve the past from oblivion\, but also a means by which we act preventively\, with the aim of creating a more responsible and humane society.

SUMMARY:Marriage in Modern Serbia
DESCRIPTION:The promotion of the book by Aleksandra Vuletić “Marriage in Modern Serbia” will be held at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo on Tuesday\, May 12th\, 2026\, starting at 6 PM.   \nThe book “Marriage in Modern Serbia” represents a significant historiographical study that sheds light on the institution of marriage in Serbia during the 19th 19. and 20th centuries – in the period of the formation of the modern state and society. The author examines marriage through the complex influences of the state\, church\, social norms\, and individual choices\, pointing to its key role in shaping everyday life.  \nA particular value of this study lies in the insight into “marriage from within” – from the perspective of the spouses themselves. Through archival material\, scenes from the lives of ordinary people are reconstructed: their emotions\, expectations\, fears\, and daily concerns\, thereby questioning and transcending entrenched notions of marital relations in the past.  \nThe book also highlights the importance of marital policy as one of the key segments of Serbia’s internal politics in the 19th century. Legal regulation of marriage and the state’s efforts to transform traditional customs often met resistance in society\, testifying to the complex relationship between regulations and practice.   \nAleksandra Vuletić\, PhD\, senior research associate of the Institute of History in Belgrade\, was born in Brčko and completed elementary school and Gymnasium in Šabac. She graduated in 1995 from the Department of History at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade\, where in 2001 she defended her master’s thesis “Family in Serbia during the Second Reign of Prince Mihailo”. Her doctoral dissertation “Marriage in the Principality of Serbia” was defended in 2008 at the same      \nFaculty. Since social history and the history of private life have long been her narrower field of professional interest\, with this book the author sought to make her doctoral dissertation accessible also to those without historiographical training.  \nThe book “Marriage in Modern Serbia” abounds in authentic archival material\, numerous testimonies\, and court rulings\, excellently bringing closer to the reader the past of everyday life. \nThe promotion will be an opportunity for the audience to become more familiar with this work\, which sheds new light on the past and establishes a connection with contemporary understanding of marriage and family relations. \nIn addition to the author\, the book will be presented by Nebojša Jovanović\, PhD\, editor of the edition and representative of the publishing house “Laguna” and Katarina Mitrović\, PhD\, research advisor at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade.

SUMMARY:Saint Sava – 850 Years With Us
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition “Saint Sava: 850 Years with Us” will be opened at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Tuesday\, May 19th\, 2026\, starting at 12 p.m. The exhibition presents 80 awarded and commended children’s art works submitted to the competition announced by the sisterhood of the Žiča Monastery on the occasion of the 850th anniversary of the birth of Saint Sava\, the first Serbian archbishop.    \nThe exhibition features a selection of works by pupils from elementary and secondary schools in Serbia\, Montenegro\, North Macedonia\, and Republika Srpska\, bearing witness to the creativity and sincere children’s perception of the personality and spiritual heritage of Saint Sava. More than 600 works were submitted to the competition\, which speaks of the exceptional response and great interest of children and mentors in this theme. The expert jury\, consisting of Velimir Zelenović\, Radoš Rakuš\, Ana Radulović\, and the sisterhood of the Žiča Monastery\, selected the works to be awarded and presented at the exhibition.   \nThis display is realized as part of the traditional manifestation Children’s May Art Salon\, through which the National Museum Kraljevo nurtures and encourages children’s creativity and artistic expression. \nThe exhibition will be open to the public until June 15\, 2026\, offering visitors the opportunity to view\, through children’s eyes and artistic language\, one of the most significant figures of Serbian history and spirituality.

SUMMARY:51st Children’s May Art Salon
DESCRIPTION:The ceremonial opening of the exhibition of selected works submitted to the competition of the 51st Children’s May Art Salon will be held in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Thursday\, May 21st\, 2026\, at 12 p.m.     \nThis traditional manifestation\, dedicated to encouraging children’s artistic creativity\, has once again gathered many works by talented pupils from the 5th to the 8th grades of elementary schools in the territory of the city of Kraljevo.    \nSince the theme of the competition was free\, the pupils had the opportunity to express their imagination\, creativity\, and artistic expression through various art techniques and individual approaches.  \nThe jury\, consisting of Milica Dukić\, Master of Fine Arts\, Zlatan Gračanac\, Master of Applied Arts – sculptor\, and painter Milica Gračanac\, PhD Arts\, met on April 28th\, 2026\, and selected the works for exhibition\, as well as decided on the awarding of prizes to the most successful participants.    \nThe Children’s May Art Salon\,founded in 1974\, represents one of the most significant and longest‑standing manifestations dedicated to children’s artistic creativity\, with the aim of emphasizing importance of art education and recognizing the creative potential of young people.
