SUMMARY:50th Children’s May Art Salon
DESCRIPTION:The 50th Children’s May Art Salon competition was thematic this year\, as the exhibition was organized to mark a significant anniversary—half a century of this museum event\, continuously held since 1974.   \nThe theme of this year’s competition\, titled “A Childhood Memory” provided a broad conceptual framework for creative and artistic expression. The exhibition showcased the most successful visual compositions in which participants depicted their most significant childhood memories. The chosen theme allowed for artistic creation across various genres and motifs – such as toys\, objects\, digital and television content\, video games\, events\, people\, places\, landscapes\, and more – that held special importance during the participants’ upbringing.    \nThe goal of the theme was to foster a sense of shared cultural and emotional heritage among children\, as well as to encourage empathy and mutual understanding through the sharing of personal stories. The intention was that\, after five decades of presenting different topics explored in art education classes\, key elements of material and spiritual culture in generations of children growing up in the present time would be recognized.

SUMMARY:Exclamations of Sincere Enthusiasm: The Ephemeral Spectacle and Journey of King Alexander and Queen Draga Obrenović through Serbia in 1901
DESCRIPTION:Promotion of the book by Miloš Timotijević\, PhD and Aleksandar Marušić “Exclamations of Sincere Enthusiasm: The Ephemeral Spectacle and Journey of King Alexander and Queen Draga Obrenović through Serbia in 1901” will take place at the Gallery of the National Museum in Kraljevo\, on Thursday\, June 12th\, 2025\, starting at 7 p.m. The publication was issued by the Museum of the Rudnik-Takovo Region in Gornji Milanovac and the National Museum Čačak.    \nThe book explores the symbolic and political dimensions of royal visits within the context of a significant political moment. The visit was organized following the death of King Milan Obrenović\, the adoption of an imposed constitution\, the announcement that Queen Draga was not pregnant\, and the postponement of the visit to the Russian Tsar\, which was intended to secure international legitimacy for the Queen. The journey included stops in Smederevo\, Kragujevac\, Kraljevo\, the monasteries of Žiča and Studenica\, Čačak\, Požega\, Užice\, Dobrinja\, Takovo\, Gornji Milanovac\, the monasteries of Vujan\, Vraćevšnica\, and Divostin\, before concluding in Belgrade via Kragujevac and Mladenovac. The book also examines the organization of the Queen’s birthday celebration in the capital\, military maneuvers in Ub\, and a visit to Niš.    \nThroughout their travels\, the royal couple used public ceremonies and rituals to reinforce their legitimacy and demonstrate their connection with the people. The visit had a significant impact on the daily lives of ordinary people\, as many places became centers of public celebrations – an event never repeated in the history of these towns\, at least not in the manner of 1901. Special emphasis is placed on analyzing religious and national symbols\, which strengthened ties to Serbia’s historical heritage. These public appearances functioned as a kind of “performance\,” in which the ruling couple assumed the role of national protectors while simultaneously attempting to mitigate political crises and opposition pressure.     \nNumerous illustrations and documents\, including lists of individuals decorated before\, during\, and after the visit\, as well as important toasts\, speeches\, and addresses given during these festivities\, further enrich the understanding of the historical context and provide readers with a valuable insight into the structure and character of these visits. \nAlthough these rituals were designed as a means to reinforce state stability\, the authors also analyze their ephemeral nature\, pointing out that the royal performances had a limited impact on long-term public support. Ultimately\, the book highlights the political failure of these public appearances and the acceleration of the conspirators’ decision to assassinate the King and Queen as a kind of “anti-performance” aimed at dismantling the symbolic power of the last Obrenovićs.

SUMMARY:City Museum Rankovićevo – National Museum Kraljevo: First 30 Years
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition “City Museum Rankovićevo – National Museum Kraljevo: First 30 Years”\, authored by curators of the National Museum Kraljevo\, Oleg Romanov\, museum advisor\, and Slađana Spasić\, senior curator\, will open at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Friday\, June 27th\, 2025\, at 7:00 PM. The exhibition is organized on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the National Museum Kraljevo.   \nThe exhibition includes a large number of museum artifacts collected during the first three decades of its operation\, belonging to the Natural History\, Archaeological\, Numismatic\, Historical\, Ethnological\, and Art collections. It also features a significant number of documents related to the museum’s founding and activities during this period\, as well as later-established groups focused on conservation\, documentation\, educational and promotional work\, and the professional library. \nSome museum exhibits were acquired through purchases and donations\, while others were obtained through archaeological excavations carried out by the National Museum Kraljevo (sites: Gorelo Polje in Miločaj\, Okruglica in Čukojevac)\, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments Kraljevo (site: Maglič Castle)\, and the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments Belgrade (Gradac Monastery\, Nova Pavlica Monastery). Additionally\, the collection includes materials gathered from surveying the regions of Kraljevo\, Raška\, and Vrnjačka Banja (numismatic and historical materials). \nVisitors will also have the opportunity to see works of renowned artists from the Art Collection\, as well as copies of frescoes from the Copy Collection of the National Museum Kraljevo. The displayed museum material covers the period from prehistory to the early 1980s\, accompanied by more recent illustrative materials.    \nThe exhibition will be open to visitors until August 10th\, 2025.

SUMMARY:Author’s Guidance Through the Exhibition “City Museum Rankovićevo – National Museum Kraljevo: First Thirty Years”
DESCRIPTION:The author’s guidance of senior curator Slađana Spasić through the exhibition “City Museum Rankovićevo – National Museum Kraljevo: First Thirty Years” (on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of its founding) will be organized on Thursday\, July 31st\, 2025\, starting at 7 p.m.\, as well as on Saturday\, August 2nd\, 2025\, starting at 11 a.m. \nThe exhibition is dedicated to the pioneering years of the National Museum Kraljevo\, from the first initiatives to establish the Museum during World War II\, until 1980. The exhibition provides insight into the life and work of the first director\, Professor Milorad S. Jović\, and learns how a small museum team\, with the help of citizens and associates\, managed to form seven museum collections within three decades and lay the foundations of modern museum activity in our city. \nThe author’s guidance by Slađana Spasić sheds light on the rich and often little-known history of the institution that has become the guardian of the cultural heritage of Kraljevo and its surroundings over the years. Visitors will have the opportunity to see rarely exhibited exhibits\, archival documentation\, works of art\, ethnographic objects\, as well as testimonies of the first exhibitions\, including displays dedicated to the National Liberation War\, Serbian uprisings\, and collections from the 18th and 19th centuries. \nThe guided tour is an ideal opportunity for all lovers of history\, culture\, and museology to learn more firsthand about the beginnings and development of the Museum\, as well as the dedication of individuals whose work has left a lasting mark on the cultural life of the city.

SUMMARY:Žiča Spiritual Assembly “Transfiguration 2025”
DESCRIPTION:The Žica Spiritual Assembly “Transfiguration” is a significant cultural event that aims to nurture\, study and affirm the values of our national culture. The Assembly program begins with a ceremonial opening at the National Museum in Kraljevo\, where two exhibitions will be opened. The first is the visiting exhibition of the Museum in Smederevo “The Journey to the East of King Milan Obrenović: Pilgrimage and the Culture of the Orient at the Serbian Court”\, which will be opened by the authors Snezana Cvetković\, PhD\, museum advisor of the Museum in Smederevo\, and Dejan Vukelić\, MA\, technical advisor of the Institute of Mathematics of the Serbian Academy of Sciences in Belgrade. The second exhibition “Discrete Hero of Heritage: Milorad Miki Mihailović\, Art Historian and Director of the National Museum Kraljevo (1995-2025)”\, dedicated to one of the most significant figures of this institution\, and will be opened by the authors Tatjana Mihailović\, PhD\, museum advisor of the National Museum Kraljevo and Dragan Drašković\, retired museum advisor of the National Museum Kraljevo. The crowning achievement of the event is the awarding of the “Žiča Chrysobull” to the poet laureate on the Transfiguration\, on August 19th\, in the refectory of the Žiča Monastery. The winner of the “Žiča Chrysobull” for 2025 is the poet Gordana Đilas.

SUMMARY:Journey of King Milan Obrenović to the East: Pilgrimage and the Culture of the Orient at the Serbian Court
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition “Journey of King Milan Obrenović to the East: Pilgrimage and the Culture of the Orient at the Serbian Court” of the Museum in Smederevo will be officially opened in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, as part of the Žica Spiritual Assembly “Transfiguration 2025”\, on Saturday\, August 16th\, 2025\, starting at 8 p.m. The exhibition will be opened by the authors\, Snezana Cvetković\, PhD\, museum advisor of the Museum in Smederevo\, and Dejan Vukelić\, MA\, technical advisor of the Institute of Mathematics of the Serbian Academy of Sciences in Belgrade. \nThe basic idea and inspiration for the creation of the exhibition “Journey of King Milan Obrenović to the East: Pilgrimage and the Culture of the Orient at the Serbian Court” came from the book by the adjutant of King Milan Obrenović and his companion on the journey to the East in 1889\, Colonel and later General Mihail Rašić\, which he published under the title “With His Royal Highness King Milan in the East” in 1891/1892. \nThe key points of departure for the exhibition include the personality of Milan Obrenović\, his abdication and motives for the journey to the Holy Land\, the spiritual transformation he experienced at the tomb of Christ\, the perception of the discourse of the Orient in the Serbian environment and its influence on the shaping of the court and court culture in the Kingdom of Serbia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. \nShortly after a series of turbulent events in public and private life\, Milan Obrenović\, accompanied by his closest associates\, under the pseudonym “Count of Takovo”\, set off on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land\, with stops in Constantinople\, Beirut and Damascus. The picturesque journey of King Milan Obrenović took place in the period from March 17th to June 13th\, 1889\, according to the old calendar. The Count of Takovo traveled by “lightning” train\, ship\, post car\, riding a horse\, camped in the desert… He met numerous personalities\, from the Sultan in Constantinople\, the Patriarch of Constantinople and Jerusalem\, Bedouins and Maronites\, to the barber from Smederevo in Damascus\, and we\, inspired by this event\, have taken you on a museological journey to the East. \nThe exhibition prints include photographs from the trip\, photographs of the Arab salons of the Old Palace in Belgrade\, which are kept in Belgrade museums and libraries: the Belgrade City Museum\, the Museum of Applied Arts\, the Historical Museum of Serbia in Belgrade and the National Library of Serbia\, as well as photographs from the aforementioned book by Mihailo Rašić. Part of the exhibition is a series of postcards\, photographs and books from private collections\, as well as a carpet with the motif of the “Rašić Pattern” from the Ethnological Collection of the National Museum in Kraljevo. \nThe Arab Salon in the former Old Belgrade Palace of Obrenović was modeled by conservator and restorer MA Snežana Mijić using virtual reality\, as well as by complexly making a replica of the ajami panel\, i.e. the wooden polychrome paneling that decorated the walls of the aforementioned salon. \nDirected by Tibor Varga from Novi Sad\, a documentary film was made about this journey and its historical and artistic significance\, which is discussed in the film by the authors of the exhibition\, and excerpts from the book are interpreted by actor Marko Nedeljković. \nThe University Library “Svetozar Marković” in Belgrade has digitized Mihailo Rašić’s book “With His Royal Highness King Milan in the East” in order to make it available to as many users as possible. There is a QR code on the back of the exhibition catalog that leads to the digitized books. \nThe project “Journey of King Milan Obrenović to the East: Pilgrimage and the Culture of the Orient at the Serbian Court” was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia and the City of Smederevo.

DESCRIPTION:Exhibition “Discreet Hero of Heritage: Milorad Miki Mihailović\, Art Historian and Director of the National Museum Kraljevo” will be officially opened at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, as part of the Žiča Spiritual Assembly “Transfiguration 2025\,” on Saturday\, August 16\, 2025\, starting at 8 p.m.  \nMilorad Miki Mihailović was the first art historian\, curator of the Art Collection of the National Museum Kraljevo\, and director of the institution from 1979 to 1995\, when he passed away unexpectedly. September 2025 marks 30 years since his passing\, which is one of the reasons why\, in the year celebrating 75 years of the Museum’s work and 30 years of the new Gallery located on the ground floor of the old school building\, an exhibition is being organized in honor of one of the most significant curators of this museum institution\, which he successfully led for sixteen years.     \nFrom the beginning of his work in 1973\, Miki distinguished himself as a key figure in the development of the city’s art scene—a driving force behind numerous projects\, exhibitions\, publications\, and initiatives. He introduced the Museum into the joint publication of the journal “Naša prošlost” (Our Past)\, actively participated in scientific research projects\, and contributed to the formation of art associations.   \nAs director\, he tirelessly fought for a new museum building\, thereby resolving one of the institution’s greatest challenges. The year 1995 was the culmination of his long-standing and selfless effort and work\, when the first phase of adaptation was completed and the new Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo was officially opened. The institution stepped into a new chapter with great strides – hosting two international scientific conferences\, organizing four major exhibitions\, and preparing a fifth that was still in progress.    \nThen something occurred that was difficult to comprehend for his family\, the institution\, the city\, and the broader cultural community –his unexpected passing on September 20th\, 1995\, at the age of forty-eight: just six months after entering the adapted museum building\, and only a month after the completion of the scientific conference “Žiča – History\, Art\,” at the very beginning of a new museum era.   \nThis exhibition is a modest tribute to the memory of Milorad Miki Mihailović\, a man who pushed boundaries in heritage preservation—quietly but thoughtfully\, consistently and without signs of fatigue\, always moving toward his goals. \nThe exhibition is authored by Tatjana Mihailović\, PhD\, museum advisor at the National Museum Kraljevo\, and Dragan Drašković\, retired museum advisor of the same institution.

DESCRIPTION:Promotion of the book by Suzana Rajić “Prince Milan Obrenović (1854–1881): From Baron to a Sovereign” will be held at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Tuesday\, September 16th\, 2025\, starting at 7 p.m. This is the first of three planned volumes that will illuminate the life and reign of one of the most significant – and most controversial – rulers of 19th century Serbia.     \nThe first volume covers the first twenty-seven years of Milan Obrenović’s life. At just 14 years old\, he ascended the Serbian throne\, and by age 22\, he had assumed supreme command of the army and led two wars against the Ottoman Empire. Although often portrayed in historiography and public discourse as a weak and unworthy ruler\, it was during his reign that Serbia gained international recognition of independence (1878)\, expanded its territory by nearly one-third\, was elevated to the status of a kingdom (1882)\, and inaugurated its first railway line between Belgrade and Niš.   \nFor this monograph\, the author conducted extensive research into unpublished archival material across 38 collections housed in 17 institutions in Serbia and abroad – including Belgrade\, Novi Sad\, Kragujevac\, Moscow\, Bucharest\, Vienna\, and London. The book has been published as a luxurious hardcover edition\, featuring nearly 300 illustrations\, many of which are being made available to the academic and general public for the first time.  \nThe significance of the work will be discussed by the author\, professor Suzana Rajić\, PhD\, head of the Chair for the History of the Serbian People in the Modern Era and Director of the Center for Serbian Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade\, Danko Leovac\, PhD\, associate professor at the Department of History of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade and Darko Gučanin\, historian and director of the National Museum Kraljevo.

DESCRIPTION:Lecture by historian Aleksandar Marušić\, senior curator at the Museum of the Rudnik-Takovo Region\, titled “Between the Throne and the Search for Personal Happiness: King Milan Obrenović and Artemiza Hristić”\, will be held at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Tuesday\, September 30th\, 2025\, starting at 7 p.m.   \nThe private life of the “first Serbian king after Kosovo” was undeniably marked by his relationship with his wife\, Queen Natalija. However\, the focus of this lecture will be the emotional life of the Serbian sovereign\, woven with numerous affairs\, with particular emphasis on his love and relationship with Artemiza Hristić.  \nMany may wonder – who was she really? Born Joanidis\, the daughter of a Greek merchant and supplier to the royal court in Belgrade\, she entered Serbian high society through her marriage to Milan Hristić\, an official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For a time\, she served at court as a lady-in-waiting to Queen Natalija. Her beauty quickly caught the eye of King Milan\, and a passionate romance soon ignited between them. To spend more time with his beloved\, the Serbian king appointed her husband as his personal secretary. After separating from Queen Natalija in 1888\, Milan intended to marry Artemiza and urged her to obtain a divorce. However\, she was unable to do so easily and eventually left Belgrade. She lived in Constantinople\, where in 1889 she gave birth to a son believed by many to be King Milan’s child.           \nA special part of the lecture will be dedicated to the luxurious porcelain dining set gifted to Artemiza Hristić by her royal lover. \nToday\, this set is part of the permanent exhibition of the Museum of the Rudnik-Takovo Region in Gornji Milanovac.

DESCRIPTION:The exhibition “Women’s Painting Manuscript of Kovačica Naïve Painting: From Needle and Thread to UNESCO” will open at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Wednesday\, October 8th\, 2025\, at 6 p.m. The exhibition is organized by the “Babka” Gallery and Foundation from Kovačica. \nThe exhibition is inspired by the inscription of Kovačica naïve painting on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity\, achieved in December 2024. \nOn display are works (paintings and objects) by 31 female artists who have made a significant contribution to the development of this artistic phenomenon. The first part of the exhibition features works by some of the most prominent names\, including Zuzana Chalupová\, Katarína Kožíková\, Katarína Ďurišová\, Alžbeta Čižiková\, and many others. The second part will showcase works by Pavel Hajko\, one of the most acclaimed naïve painters today. \nEmerging from the towns and villages of southern Banat\, Kovačica’s naïve painting has become a hallmark of the Slovak community’s cultural identity in Serbia. Recognized both in art history and by the broader public\, its scope and quality have earned it a lasting place in cultural heritage. \nMotifs of rural life and everyday scenes\, symbols of tradition and the past\, and their distinct visual narratives form an authentic body of work with multi-layered cultural meanings – now more fully appreciated through the lens of intangible cultural heritage. \nThe exhibition will be formally opened by H.E. Michal Pavuk\, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to the Republic of Serbia. \nIn addition to the opening\, a rich accompanying program will begin at 4 p.m. the same day. A children’s workshop on Kovačica naïve painting will be led by artist Vieroslava Svetliková\, during which the youngest participants will receive a copy of the “Primer of Kovačica Naïve Painting”. An adult workshop titled “Paint Your Own Magnet in the Spirit of Kovačica Naïve Painting” will be led by artist Klara Babka. The workshop is free of charge\, and all interested participants are welcome to join at 4 p.m. in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo. \nThe exhibition will remain open until November 15th\, 2025.

DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the 84th anniversary of the most terrible crime against humanity committed in Kraljevo in October 1941\, the National Museum of Kraljevo is organizing a screening of the documentary film “Two Faces of War”\, which will be held in the Movie Theater “Kvart”\, on Tuesday\, October 14th\, 2025. at 2 p.m..    \nThe documentary film “The Two Faces of War”\, by Zoran Dobrić\, a journalist\, documentary filmmaker and professor of journalism at the University of Vienna\, was produced by the Austrian national television ORF. The main theme of the film is the lesser-known role of Austrian citizens in World War II in the occupied Kingdom of Yugoslavia.  \nThe two opposing faces of war – good and evil – are depicted through the actions of two Austrians: nurse Diana Budisavljević\, who saved more than 7\,500 Serbian children from camps in the NDH\, and General Franz Böhme\, who\, as the occupation commander\, issued the order by which around 35\,000 civilians were shot in Serbia during the fall of 1941\, including several hundred children.  \nAlthough focused on the horrors of war\, the film “The Two Faces of War” carries a strong anti-war message and presents a universal story about good and evil in man. \nBefore the screening\, the film’s author Zoran Dobrić will address the audience.

DESCRIPTION:The lecture by Marina Lukić Cvetić “It Isn’t Simple as Bosa: History and Culture of the Bozadji’s Craft” will be held in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Friday\, November 7th\, 2025. starting at 7 p.m.  \nThe Museum of Spoonsweats presents a new story about the widely known fermented sweet beverage originating from the Middle East\, which became rooted across the Balkans following Ottoman conquests. Although traditionally associated with Turkish communities\, boza has been consumed in Serbia since the early 19th century\, when craftsmen from the south – halva makers\, candy makers\, confectioners\, pastry chefs\, salep sellers\, and finally boza vendors – arrived in local bazaars. Today’s boza enthusiasts recognize it from “Pelivan” pastry shops\, where it is traditionally prepared by the Gorani people and served alongside sweets such as shampita\, baklava\, and kadaif. This drink dates back to prehistoric times\, and throughout history it has refreshed\, nourished\, and energized Janissaries.   \nThe question of whose boza we drink today has sparked debate between Turks and Persians.Across many Asian and European cultures\, boza has been prepared and served in various ways. In Bulgaria\, it has been declared a national beverage\, and its most famous literary depiction appears in Orhan Pamuk’s novel “A Strangeness in My Mind” where the protagonist is a twelve-year-old boza seller named Mevlut Karataş. His childhood and life are portrayed as a metaphor for Istanbul itself. In Serbia\, mischievous children once sang playful verses about boza while banging on tin drums\, and even today\, popular sayings use its characteristics to describe someone’s intelligence or wit.

SUMMARY:Crime and Punishment: The Fate of the Wehrmacht Officers Responsible for the Massacre in Kraljevo and Kragujevac in 1941
DESCRIPTION:The lecture by Nenad Karamijalković\, titled “Crime and Punishment: The Fate of Wehrmacht Officers Responsible for the Kraljevo and Kragujevac Massacres of 1941”\, will be held at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo on Tuesday\, December 2nd\, 2025\, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The event marks 84 years since the last day General Franz Böhme spent in Serbia.   \nOn December 2nd\, 2025\, it will be exactly 84 years since General Franz Böhme\, Commander-in-Chief of the Wehrmacht in occupied Serbia\, left the country. He was the officer responsible for the infamous order “One Hundred for One”\, which during the autumn of 1941 cost the lives of around 30\,000 Serbian civilians. Among the most notorious crimes of that period were the mass executions in Kraljevo and Kragujevac. In addition to General Böhme\, Major Otto Desch – the direct commander of mass reprisals in Kraljevo and Kragujevac – was also among those most responsible. Other Wehrmacht officers likewise bore their share of responsibility for the tragedy of October 1941.       \nAnthropologist\, curator\, conservator\, and archivist Nenad Karamijalković will present the story of General Böhme\, largely familiar to historians\, as well as the fates of Major Desch and numerous other officers following the massacres in Kraljevo and Kragujevac – stories that remain mostly unknown or clouded by conflicting information

SUMMARY:Stefana Savić – This Is Not the Place
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition of photographs and video works by Stefana Savić\, titled “This Is Not That Place”\, will open at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo on Thursday\, December 11th\, 2025\, at 6:00 p.m.   \nStefana Savić was born in Kraljevo in 1979.  She completed her undergraduate studies in photography at the Academy of Arts in Belgrade in 2008\, and her interdisciplinary master’s studies in art and media theory at the University of Arts in Belgrade in 2010. In addition to nine solo exhibitions\, she has participated in more than forty group exhibitions and festivals in Serbia and abroad. She is a member of ULUS (Association of Fine Artists of Serbia).     \nOn the contemporary photography scene\, Stefana Savić stands out for her research-based approach and her constant questioning of the medium. Her photographs open new layers of everyday scenes\, encouraging us to reconsider preconceived notions of beauty\, modernity\, and perception.  \nStarting from the language of staged photography\, Savić has in previous projects reconstructed fragments of daily life\, treating ordinary moments as independent dramatic situations. Her figures\, absorbed in their own actions\, appear unaware of the observer’s presence\, yet their gazes suggest invisible hints – events unfolding beyond the frame\, in spaces only implied. In this poetic arrangement\, courtyards\, rooms\, and kitchens become stages\, while photographed individuals become unconscious participants in the drama of private life.   \nThe exhibition “This Is Not the Place” represents a step further – a search for what happens when memory collides with reality. At the moment when the artist returns to her hometown\, photography becomes a space of tension between what we remember and what we actually encounter. The private and the universal\, the personal and the collective intertwine in quiet\, minimalist compositions where the city\, rooms\, and empty spaces take on the role of witnesses to a discreet\, inner journey.   \nThe exhibition invites the viewer to confront their own layers of memory. As the gaze moves through empty spaces\, arranged interiors\, and glimpses of urban landscapes\, it reveals that the place we return to often does not coincide with the one we carry within ourselves. In this dissonance lies the poetics of the exhibition – a space where the image becomes a question\, and memory its silent interlocutor.

SUMMARY:Lojanik: Prehistoric Jasper and Opal Quarry
DESCRIPTION:Lojanik represents a unique paleobotanical site\, where fossil remains of silicified\, petrified wood have been discovered. It was declared a scientific research reserve in 1963. The site is located on the northern slopes of Stolovi\, on the right bank of the Ibar River\, near Mataruška Banja. Analysis of the silicified wood identified its origin as petrified conifers of the fir genus (Abies).    \nArchaeological research conducted between 2016 and 2022\, organized by the National Museum Kraljevo and the National Museum of Serbia\, confirmed the mining concept of raw material extraction at Lojanik. Excavations revealed surface mining structures in the form of shallow pits and trenches on both sides of the hill. The oldest archaeological material – jasper\, opal\, breccia\, and silicified wood—was dated to the Middle Paleolithic (Old Stone Age)\, around 228\,000 BC. In addition\, geological layer 2 contained clear evidence of fire use\, dated to around 90\,000 BCE. Fire was employed to remove surface rock and release ore\, direct proof of the skill and experience of populations likely linked to Neanderthals or archaic Homo sapiens.        \nThe significance of Lojanik as a quarry and mining site over the past 200\,000 years cannot be understood without reference to the nearby settlement of Crkvine in Konarevo\, only 2 km away. Crkvine is one of the earliest Early Neolithic settlements\, formed by the arrival of the first farmers on the left bank of the Ibar\, opposite Lojanik. They encountered available raw materials and Paleolithic artifacts\, which they initially used. Lojanik’s limnosilicates\, opals\, silicified wood\, and various breccias became the basic materials for toolmaking in Neolithic settlements in the area.    \nEven in modern times\, the rough\, dark parts of silicified branches were recognized as grinding material for metal blades. In the late 20th century\, “miner” Đorđe Matović and traders (the Vićanović brothers) ran a small-scale production of stone grindstones\, competitive with industrial products of the era. Remarkably\, Matović’s grindstones remain in use today\, still efficient and barely worn after half a century.     \nThe exhibition is authored by Vera Bogosavljević Petrović\, PhD\, museum advisor at the National Museum of Serbia and head of the research project. The exhibition will be formally opened by Dr Dušan Mihailović\, Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy\, University of Belgrade.

DESCRIPTION:The promotion of the book by Milutin Živković “Warriors from the Border. Old Raška Muslims in the German Army\, SS\, and Police (1941–1945)” will be held at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Tuesday\, March 3rd\, 2026\, starting at 6 p.m.    \nThis study represents the result of more than a decade of research work and relies on extensive\, partly previously unused archival material of German and Albanian provenance. The monograph synthesizes the author’s previous knowledge about the past of Old Raška/Sandžak and brings new insights into the complex processes of collaboration\, motivation\, and the role of Old Raška Muslims within the German occupation system during the Second World War.  \nThe book provides answers to numerous important questions: about the reasons and scope of collaboration with the occupier\, the differences between participation in German units and fighting alongside them\, the social and economic background of the “warriors from the border\,” as well as their postwar fate. Of special value are the extensive lists of members of German formations and previously unpublished photographs\, which make this topic more visible and understandable to the wider public.  \nMilutin Živković\, PhD\, born in Kraljevo in 1986\, is a historian and senior research associate at the Institute for Contemporary History in Belgrade. He completed undergraduate and doctoral studies in history at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade\, where in 2017 he defended his doctoral dissertation “Sandžak 1941–1943” under the mentorship of academician Prof. Ljubodrag Dimić.     \nHis scientific interest is directed toward the political\, military\, and social history of Kosovo and Metohija and Old Raška \n(Sandžak) in the 20th century\, especially toward questions of occupation systems\, national identities\, and interethnic relations during the Second World War. He has conducted research in numerous domestic and foreign archives. He is the author of three notable monographs and about fifty scientific papers in domestic and international publications.    \nIn addition to the author\, the monograph will be discussed by reviewers Kosta Nikolić\, PhD\, scientific advisor at the Institute for Contemporary History in Belgrade\, and Bojan Dimitrijević\, PhD\, scientific advisor at the Institute for Contemporary History in Belgrade. \nWe invite all interested to attend the promotion and participate in the discussion about one of the more sensitive and less researched topics of the history of the Second World War in the territory of Serbia.

SUMMARY:Nadežda Petrović: Life and Art in the Service of the Nation
DESCRIPTION:The promotion of the monograph by Miloš Timotijević\, PhD\, “Nadežda Petrović: Life and Art in the Service of the Nation” will be held at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Tuesday\, March 17th\, 2026\, starting at 6 PM.   \nThe monograph brings a new and comprehensive interpretation of the life and work of Nadežda Petrović (1873–1915)\, one of the most important figures of Serbian art and culture of the 20th century. As the founder of Serbian modernism\, Nadežda opened new chapters in national art with her avant‑garde painting\, while at the same time\, through strong social and political engagement\, she actively participated in shaping national consciousness and public life of her time. Through a rich artistic oeuvre and tireless work in patriotic organizations\, she combined modernity\, art\, and nationalism. Her participation in the liberation wars and her tragic death as a volunteer nurse in 1915 confirmed her deep dedication to the homeland.      \nA special value of this book lies in the analysis of her political activity\, which in previous research often remained in the shadow of her artistic oeuvre. The author views Nadežda Petrović in a broader historical and cultural context – as an artist\, intellectual\, and national activist who acted in a time of great political and social upheavals\, considering her relationship to nationalism\, Serbian identity\, Yugoslavism\, and modernism.  \nThe book represents a significant contribution to understanding the position of women artists in Serbian society and the way in which Nadežda Petrović\, through her life and work\, united art\, ideas\, and patriotism. \nMiloš Timotijević (Čačak\, 1969) is a doctor of historical sciences and museum advisor at the National Museum Čačak. He graduated and earned his doctorate at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade\, where in 2011 he defended his dissertation on the modernization of Balkan cities in socialism. He is the author of numerous scholarly papers and monographs\, and his narrower field of research includes the history of Serbia and Yugoslavia in the 20th century. For his scholarly and cultural contribution\, he has received several significant awards.

SUMMARY:The Serbian Royal Portrait in the Age of King Milutin
DESCRIPTION:The lecture by Bojana Stevanović entitled “Serbian Medieval Ruler Portraits in the Time of King Milutin” will be held at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Tuesday\, March 31st\, 2026\, starting at 6 PM.   \nPortrait\, as an artistic genre\, aims to depict a specific individual or group of people\, emphasizing not only their physical appearance but also psychological traits\, social position\, and spiritual dimension. The medieval portrait has far more to do with expressing social status\, religious attitude\, relationship to God\, political role\, family ties\, endowments\, military successes\, and aspirations than with faithful representation of physiognomy and character. Serbian medieval painting dominates with a large number of portraits of historical figures throughout the Eastern Christian world and abounds in the use of diverse iconographic solutions in their shaping. The movement toward the representative ruler’s image\, similar to Byzantine imperial portraits\, can be observed in examples dating from before Milutin became ruler\, and later son‑in‑law of the Byzantine emperor. Serbian King Stefan Uroš II Milutin is the only figure of our Middle Ages whose portraits depict a long life path. The period of his reign (1282–1321) was marked not only by the number of ruler portraits but also by the diversity and innovativeness of iconographic solutions\, enabled especially by extensive endowment activity in the last decades of the king’s life. Serbian ruler portraits from the time of King Milutin provide a complete picture of the ideology of earthly power and the preoccupations of the Serbian king and his closest circle. In the time of King Milutin’s rule\, Serbian ruler images were already fully aligned with the Byzantine ceremonial image. Portrait ensembles from this period are based on the imperial idea and laid the foundation for Serbian ruler portraits\, especially those from the time of the empire. As for the portraits of King Milutin\, they are testimony to his appearance\, particularly because they are part of a certain portrait realism characteristic of Byzantine art of the mature Palaiologan Renaissance.          \nBojana Stevanović (Belgrade\, 1984) is an art historian and research associate at the Institute for Art History at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. She graduated and earned her doctorate at the Department of Art History\, and for her diploma thesis on Serbian ruler portraits in the time of King Milutin she received the “Elder Isaiah” award for the best work in the field of church art. She is the author of numerous scholarly papers dedicated to Serbian medieval wall painting\, iconography\, and architecture\, as well as a contributor to significant encyclopedic and lexicographic editions.   \nWe invite all lovers of medieval art\, history\, and cultural heritage to join us and\, through expert interpretation\, discover how Serbian rulers built their visual representation of power and spiritual identity.

DESCRIPTION:The promotion of the monograph “Miomir Vukobratović: Pioneer of Robotics” will be held at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Friday\, April 3rd\, 2026\, starting at 1 p.m.   \nThe monograph “Miomir Vukobratović: Pioneer of Robotics” was created with the intention of systematically illuminating in one place the life\, scientific work\, and intellectual legacy of the Serbian scientist whose contribution to world robotics is indisputable\, but who for a long time remained insufficiently known to the domestic public. The book provides a comprehensive and documented overview of an exceptional scientific career and its lasting impact on the development of modern technologies.  \nThrough the story of the life and work of one of the pioneers of humanoid robotics\, the publication reveals how visionary ideas and theories were created\, on which the development of intelligent machines is still based today\, among which a special place belongs to the famous Zero Moment Point theory of walking – one of the key concepts of modern robotics. \nThis monograph goes beyond the framework of a classical scientific biography and presents Professor Vukobratović as an exceptional and versatile personality – a top scientist\, charismatic professor\, and passionate researcher. SUMMARY:Culture of Memory: Children in War and From War
DESCRIPTION:The promotion of the collection of papers “Culture of Memory: Children in War and from War” will be held at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo\, on Tuesday\, April 7th\, 2026\, starting at 6 p.m.   \nThe Collection of Paper was created as a result of the international scholarly thematic conference “Children in War and from War” held on 26. June 26th–27th\, 2025 at the University of Business Academy in Novi Sad\, in co‑organization with the Jovan Ristić Institute from Novi Sad. At the conference\, 29 authors from Serbia\, Italy\, Hungary\, Russia\, Belarus\, Republika Srpska\, and Romania participated\, with a total of 24 scholarly papers. The authors – university professors\, scientific researchers\, museum experts\, and representatives of various disciplines – approached the topic from legal\, philosophical\, sociological\, cultural\, and historical perspectives.    \nThe papers were presented within three thematic units:\n• children as victims of war rights and injustices\n• historical traumas and memories – the suffering of children in the world wars of the 20th and 21st centuries\n• identity\, memory\, and silence – the suffering of children. \nThe Collection of Papers “Culture of Memory: Children in War and from War” brings scholarly and professional contributions dealing with the position of children in wartime circumstances and the long‑term consequences of war experiences on individuals and society. The papers arose from different scholarly perspectives and together make an important contribution to the study of the theme of children’s suffering\, as well as to understanding the ways in which these experiences are remembered\, interpreted\, and transmitted to future generations.  \nThe publication unites original scholarly papers\, review studies\, and professional contributions that shed light on issues of children as victims of war injustices\, historical traumas and memories of suffering in world wars\, as well as themes of identity\, memory\, and silence that often accompany these events.
