On Tuesday, August 29th, 2023, Dragan Pešić, professor at the Faculty of Philology and Arts of the University of Kragujevac, graphic designer and long-time technical editor of the publishing activity of the National Museum Kraljevo, who shaped its visual identity and introduced it to the most successful museum in profession, passed away.

Dragan Pešić was born in 1960 in Bela Crkva, while he finished primary and secondary school in Kraljevo, he graduated from the Faculty of Applied Arts of the University of Arts in Belgrade, at the Department of Graphic Design, in 1988 in the class of Professor Stjepan Fileki. As an artist, he was focused on writing and book design from the beginning and exhibited at numerous solo and group exhibitions in the country and abroad. He started his university career in 2003 as an assistant professor in the subject of writing at the Faculty of Philology and Arts of the University of Kragujevac, where he was elected to the position of associate professor in 2008, and to the position of full professor in 2014.

He began cooperation with the National Museum Kraljevo in the 90s, while in the early 2000s he practically took over the job of shaping its visual identity, both in publications and in the design of posters, invitations, exhibition legends, tickets, various diplomas, souvenirs, and many other forms. graphic design. Of particular importance is the installation of the new, large format of the journal “Our Past”, which was graphically edited from number 6 (2005) to number 21 (2022). Through this highly refined expression, the publishing activity of the National Museum Kraljevo became recognizable in the country and ranked among the most successful in museum profession. Fonts such as Maculature, BigBang, Epigraph Caps, Epigraph, Train of Thought (with Ana Pešić), Tact Slab New, Tact New, Narration, Narration SRB, Glint were the subject of his design. One of them, Epigraph, became practically the trademark of the publishing house of the National Museum Kraljevo, and the new website of the institution was created with it. As an artistic entity with the right to use, these 11 fonts were donated by Dragan Pešić National Museum Kraljevo in 2020. As an artist, he had a major retrospective in our Gallery in April 2013.

In addition to the Pešić Museum, he also collaborated with the National Library “Stefan Prvovenčani” Kraljevo, primarily in the graphic design of the journal “Povelja”, and also gave a full visual identity to the Žiča Spiritual Assembly “Transfiguration” the most important cultural event in Kraljevo.

Dragan Pešić has been awarded significant awards and recognitions for his work, among which we single out the Golden Feather of Belgrade (1989), the November Award of the City of Kraljevo (1990), the November Salon Award (2011), the Graphic Collective Award (2012), the October Award of the City of Kraljevo ( 2014).

The commemoration for Dragan Pešić will be held tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. in the Ceremonial Hall of the City Administration, and the funeral will take place at 12:00 p.m. at the New Cemetery in Kraljevo.
