Ring, 13th to 15th century, Kosmaj

The ring from the horn arrived in the Archaeological Collection as a gift from Mrs. Leposava Aleksić Zarić. It is an exceptional specimen whose head is embossed, in the shape of two oppositely placed lily flowers, while the wide ring is decorated with a series of incisions. The motif of lilies appears early in our medieval art, both on money, the coats of arms of many rulers and noblemen, and on textiles and tombstones. It is related to the cult of the Most Holy Mother of God, and on our soil it was mostly used in the period of from 13th to 15th century.
