Mineral druse of rhodochrosite and calcite from the mine Trepča, Stari Trg

Trepča is one of the most important deposits of lead-galvanized ore in Europe and is characterized by a diverse mineral composition. The free growth of minerals in rock cavities has created numerous aggregations (so-called mineral druses), which are characterized by exceptional beauty. In this example, we have the growth of two minerals from the carbonate group: calcite (chemical formula CaCO3) and rhodochrosite (MnCO3). Calcite is an important petrogenic mineral (builds limestone) and participates in the structure of living organisms. Rhodochrosite (pink mineral) is one of the most important sources of manganese, and because of its beauty, it is also used as a decorative semi-precious stone.
