Development of Towns in Western Pomoravlje in the 19th and 20th Centuries

October 16 at 12:00 - 17:30

The scientific conference titled “Development of Towns in Western Pomoravlje in the 19th and 20th Century” will be held at the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo, on Thursday, October 16th, 2025, starting at 12:00 p.m.

The conference is organized by the National Museum Kraljevo, in honor of the publication of the books “Population Census 1863 I and II”, edited by Bojana Miljković Katić and Nemanja Trifunovi

The conference is dedicated to the urban development of Western Pomoravlje – including the towns of Čačak, Užice, Kraljevo, Trstenik, Kruševac, and Gornji Milanovac – across two centuries of intense social, economic, and urban transformation. Special emphasis will be placed on industrialization, infrastructure development, demographic shifts, and the formation of modern urban centers that have shaped this region of Serbia.

The program will feature two sessions, with participation from prominent historians, university professors, museum advisors, and researchers from various academic and cultural institutions. Key topics include: demographic trends in the 19th century, urban planning, social and cultural life in towns, the role of prominent families in urban development, and case studies of urbanization in Čačak, Kruševac, and Trstenik.

The conference is open to the public and offers a valuable opportunity to explore, through scholarly research, the origins and evolution of towns in Western Pomoravlje as important administrative, cultural, and economic centers of Serbia in the 19th and 20th centuries.

We warmly invite all interested citizens to attend this scientific conference.
