Fashionable Hairstyles in the Roman Era

The workshop “Modern Hairstyles in the Roman Era” which is organized as part of the exhibition “Femina Balcanica: Mater, Matrona, Augusta, Dea. Woman on the Balkans in Antiquity”, will be organized in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo, on Thursday, March 14th, 2024, at 6 p.m.

Hairstyles in Roman times, as well as today, played an important role in the appearance of women in public life and social environment. Sculptures and reliefs in the area of cities or on tombstones, as well as jewelry and furniture, have as motifs images of women in different life roles, which provide us with information about the importance they attached to hairstyles. Combs, as well as decorative pins and other items intended to decorate the hair, have been preserved.
