Thematic guidance of “Metamorphosis of Cities” through the exhibition “Cities: A Certain View. From the Collection of Graphics by Foreign Authors of the National Museum of Serbia” will be organized on Friday, September 13th, 2024, at 6 p.m., as well as on Saturday, September 14th, 2024, at 12 p.m.
Art historian Jelena Marković will guide you through the exhibition. The comprehensive transformation of urban space and architecture under the influence of social, economic and technological changes, which rapidly took place since the 18th century, remained recorded in the works of artists of that era. Changes in urban landscapes—from traditional streets and squares to industrial zones and modern boulevards—provided new inspirations and themes for artists who captured the dynamism of the new times through their works.
In this guidance, discover how industrialization, urbanization and technological progress have reshaped the views of cities: from compact centers with narrow streets and richly decorated squares, through industrial landscapes with factories and chimneys, to modern boulevards, parks and illuminated streets.
