The exhibition “Behind Objectivity – Visual Metaphors in Science” of the Center for the Promotion of Science from Belgrade was opened in the Gallery of the National Museum Kraljevo, on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023, starting at 1 p.m. The audience was first addressed by Nadica Lišanin, art historian, senior curator of the National Museum Kraljevo, and on this occasion pointed out that the exhibition is the result of the Memorandum of Cooperation, which the National Museum Kraljevo and the Center for the Promotion of Science from Belgrade signed last year. The aforementioned act aims to achieve common interest in the field of scientific research and scientific popular work and their application in the function of improving the quality of education, promotion of science and cultural heritage. The Center for the Promotion of Science (CPN) is a reputable institution established by the Ministry of Science with the task of promoting science and bringing scientific content, research and discoveries to the widest possible public. It achieves its goals by using the creative potential of various creative fields.

One of those formats, through which scientific information is made available to the public in an accessible way, is the magazine “Elements”, a popular scientific publication that, through essays authored by eminent and relevant researchers, scientific journalists, communicators and artists, introduces readers to the latest scientific developments in the world and in our country, through original stories, told in a different way in an interdisciplinary manner. The magazine is illustrated by the most important illustrators, designers and artists, and this exhibition presents the illustrations that were published in the magazine in previous years.

Then Jasmina Dražović, art historian, curator of the National Museum Kraljevo, addressed the audience, and on this occasion, she stated that a rich and concept-rounded accompanying program will be organized as part of the exhibition “Behind Objectivity”. On Saturday, May 20th, 2023, a musical performance will be held, the author of which is Saša Ranković, one of the most important performers of instrumental music in the jazz music genre. Saša Ranković is an outstanding artist and performer of instrumental music on drums, professor of philosophy, member of the “Rambo Amadeus Band”, who has been performing and creating with the most prominent jazz musicians here and in the region for 25 years. He composes original music, produces music that combines science and music in a modern way, and his musical endeavours are mainly compositions, the basic elements of which are improvisation and interaction.

The author combines the concept of science and music in a completely original, authentic way through the process of creating a musical piece. By involving the audience and interacting with them, in a way where the visitor will be able to produce the sounds of different instruments by hitting the drum, the process of performing music on the most classic set of drums and using modern technology will create completely original and spontaneous musical works.

Visitors will hit the drum to produce the sound of other instruments, and the author will perform improvisations on those tones and sound segments and create unexpected, completely original and unprepared musical responses, as parts of a complete composition. The performance combines technology, interaction and a classic jazz drum set, hence the name “Drummer and Musicians from the Machine”.

In her further address to the audience, Jasmina Dražović announced that a science show will be held on Thursday, May 25th, 2023, authored by B.Sc. physico-chemist Milan Popović, representative of the Science Festival from Belgrade, a scientist who dedicated himself to the idea of making experiments accessible to everyone, even outside the walls of scientific laboratories. Laboratories are mysterious places for most of us, inaccessible and difficult to understand. The goal of this program is to show visitors science as an inseparable part of everyday life and at the same time to provide an inspiring, new and fresh view of different fields, to arouse interest and to show the importance of science and technology in everyday life to a wider audience.
