World Music Day, in French Fête de la musique – festival, holiday of music, is celebrated every year on the first day of summer, June 21st. The idea was introduced in France in 1976 by Joel Cohen, a musician and producer, at that time employed at the national radio station France Musique. His proposal was accepted by Jacques Lang, Minister of Culture of France, so the first celebration called Fête de la Musique was held on June 21st, 1982, in Paris. Over time, this day has been accepted by a large number of countries in the world: in over 120 countries and in nearly 500 cities on all continents, concerts, lectures and gatherings are held on that day.
In Serbia, this day has been celebrated for several years, mostly in Belgrade, and the National Museum Kraljevo is joining it this year, with the intention of organizing musical programs every year on World Music Day.
